| Well, tomorrow it's Valentines
Day again. Amazing how it seems to come around at the same time every year.
Everywhere I look all I see is hearts, flowers(lots of roses), and candy.
Last night there was a special on the evening news when I got home from
teaching at Ohlone College about roses. They said that most of the roses
now are from South America. It seems that they have thicker stems, bigger
buds, and they are cheaper. At between $45.00 and $65.00 a dozen, how can
that be CHEAPER?
I have a co-worker named Mary who receives a magnificent arrangement of flowers probably every week or two. I'm talking beautiful, unusual, arrangements. At most they probably last 7 days. About as long as a simple cold. And that's if you change the water and trim the bottom of each flower, daily. But Mary has learned how to dry each of these beauties and keep them almost forever. At one every week or two, that's a lot of flowers around. Some of us would be thrilled to receive something like that maybe once a year, or even once in our lives, according to the comments I hear made by some people. When my son Michael was just a little boy, he took a seed and planted it in the yard and when it was grown he very carefully cut it off and put it in water and gave it to me with all the love he had in his heart. I kept that flower for many years in my Bible until someone stole it. My heart was broken. How can something so little and free be so valuable and priceless? Because it came from someone whose heart was so precious and whom I loved so much. It's Valentines Day tomorrow. A day for expressing our love to others. Actually, every day can, and should, be used for that. It doesn't need to be a $65.00 arrangement that you purchase to let that special person know you love them. Give of your time and energy to make something. Write a song. Fix dinner. Watch the children for an evening out. Find a babysitter to watch the kids and walk up on a hill and watch the sunset together. There are many ideas you can use to say that very special, I Love You. Do it all year. Don't stop with Valentines Day. ![]() |
