Last winter, an unexpected snowfall lashed the south of China. People were forced to struggle against the unprecedented snowstorm. Jiangxi was one of the most devastated provinces. Fortunately, my hometown didn’t suffer much from the storm. However, the snow had badly affected our normal daily life. Standing on the top of a tall building, one could see nothing expect white snow everywhere. The whole world was white. Because of this heavy storm, the electricity and water supplies were cut off. As a result, we had to live in dark without water and light for days and nights.

What’s more, the accumulated snow also caused heavy traffic jams on the streets. Hundreds of thousands of cars were trapped on highways, while hundreds of passersby’s slipped and fell on icy roads with a leg or an arm broken. Due to the bad weather and heavy traffic situations, my father and I decided to stay at home and decrease the chances of going out to protect us. However, unfortunately, my mother who worked at a supermarket had to work as usual.

One day, shortly after mom went out to her work place, the day grew dark in a minute, and snow fell steadily, gray clouds scudded on the rising wind. The roar of the snow was increasing. Wind and snowflakes continuously whipped upon the windows. My heart jumped to my throat when I remembered that mom was on her way to work. My father and I were so worried about her safety that we tried to get in touch with her using our mobile phones. The line was busy and we could not get through. We had to dial the number again and again. Both of us prayed silently: mom is fine! Everything will be all right. The snow disaster will be over again. Finally, thank goodness, we got through to her and were told she was safe. At that time, I could not help myself and burst into tears for I suddenly realized that I love and care for mom so much. I couldn’t even dare to imagine what would have happened if mom had had something wrong or had been confronted with some danger. I was so grateful that mom was fine.

The snowstorm taught us an important lesson: people should learn to cherish their families and spend everyday with their families. If we love our family then we will never regret it in the future. The worst storm in my lifetime was not only unforgettable but also meaningful. But I strongly hope such a storm will never happen again.
